Conference - Nest with Fedora

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the "Nest with Fedora" conference in August. Fortunately, the folks at Fedora uploaded a ton of YouTube videos from the conference, so I was able to enjoy some content.

This article is about some videos, I found very interesting and wanted to recommend, but also providing some information about the conference.

Nest with Fedora

The "Nest with Fedora" conference took place from August 5th to August 7th and was packed with lots of information and updates from the Fedora project, the different products and initiatives.

You can think of a "what's new" and "how to support" call from Fedora. People are talking about news from Fedora CoreOS, Silverblue, updated Logos or projects like Alma Linux and CentOS.

The overall message, I got from some videos, is: "We are a huge family with different members, and we welcome everybody, who wants to use our products, help us and discuss issues with us."

The below presentations were very interesting for me.

What's new in Fedora CoreOS

Dusty Mabe and Timothée Ravier are talking about the current status and how the integration of CoreOS (Container Linux) went.

The part of the "current status" is mostly about the implementation of Podman and Docker, cgroups v2, ignition and auto-updates. The forecast is even more interesting and digs into live-updates for rpm-ostree, aarch64 support  and bootupd.

The PinePhone Hardware, Software and Next Steps

Kevin Fenzi has given a great talk about the current status of Fedora on the PinePhone. This was the first time I heard of the new Fedora Mobility SiG. He talked about the different hardware challenges, missing applications for users and drivers. There is a lot, that can be done and will be done over time. It's on a good way, but there is always room for improvements.

More Talks

Listing all talks and videos here, will be a bit boring. So please have a look at the agenda or the YouTube playlist and have a look on your own. I can highly recommend the talks about Fedora Kinoite, Fedora Flatpaks or about Fedora & Lenovo.

Flock to Fedora

Flock is the Fedora Project's annual contributor-focused conference. It is meant to update the community about contributions and changes in the project or search for support.

Due to COVID-19 the conference was moved, and we got all the talks in this year's Nest with Fedora conference. This means, you can find some talks that strongly focus on the Fedora strategy and involved projects.

Talks like "What does Red Hat want?" or "State of EPEL" where very interesting for me, too.

Below you can find some additional links, that may be helpful to discover the background of the conferences.

Nest with Fedora: 2021 Edition – Fedora Community Blog
Hello Fedora Friends! Phew, it’s been over a year of living with COVID and everything that has gone with it. Although living in a pandemic has been stressful (to say the least), Fedora has thrived through this time, and we have been connecting more than ever. So it is with mixed emotions that I am […

Conclusion

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend to Nest with Fedora, but the videos gave some very cool insights. I was able to get some insights in topics, I wasn't even aware, that I wanted information about.

I want to thank the organization team, speakers and contributors, but also all the people that asked questions. It's awesome to see where everything is going.
